Carried interest (carry)

Industry term for the sponsor's promote share. Same idea as 'promote' in syndications.

Carry is taxed at long-term capital gains rates when held >3 years (post-TCJA). 'Carry' is more common in PE / VC vocabulary; 'promote' in syndications.
